Doing it Right...

Having a strange love for all types of art and accessories, I have always been a fan of grouping a collection on a wall. Even if the collection runs the gamut from modern to vintage, I think a grouping, if done correctly, really showcases all items beautifully. To keep the grouping looking clean and more uniform, consider framing everything in the same frame or mat. Also, mixing contemporary and found items always adds interest.
Getting the items up and arranged seems daunting, but to make it less overwhelming, try laying them out on the floor first. This makes things much easier and will save you the time of patching your walls when you change your mind! Below are a few collections that inspired me enough to start my own. These collectors are doing it right!
I am currently in the process of re-framing some items and then I will have them up. I will post a pic when they are all on the wall!

Legends of La Cienega

It was a busy day yesterday, we were installing our window for the Legends of La Cienega event that is being held this week in Los Angeles, sponsored by Elle Decor.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the event it is staged by the La Cienega Design Quarter, one of the best shopping areas in Los Angeles for all things to do with Interior Design. Each showroom invites a different designer to create a window inspired by a movie. There are some amazing things to see and I hope you come by this Thursday through Saturday too see the amazing creations and catch some of the events. Interesting panels, lectures and book signings.

Anyway, back to my window, naturally I wanted to pick something a bit out of the ordinary, so we decided on Romy and Michelles High School Reunion. There is a scene in the movie where Romy claims that she invented Post-Its. That was our inspiration, if you look closely at the image you will see how many Post-Its we used to create our vision. I hope you enjoy.

You can see our window at Maison au Natural, at 819 North La Cienega.

A special thyankyou to Dan Marty, the owner of the showroom, and Kate my right hand, and our amazing interns who so graciously offered to spend Sunday with us, thank you Derek, Amanda and Lucy!

Keep Calm Gallery

While searching for a letterpress print of my favorite quote by Samuel Beckett, I stumbled upon Keep Calm Gallery. They are an online gallery based out of the UK and they have the most fantastic prints, cards, and other odds and ends. If you are a lover of witty quotes as I am, this is the place for you! Below is the print I purchased, and a few of the others I intend to add to my collection...

Right now I am loving...

...White Books!!
I noticed my bookcase looked a little cluttered the other day... but I can'y possibly get rid of any of my beloved books! So I thought I might try something new and cover them all in white for a while.
This should freshen up the bookcase and give my accessories the attention they just don't seem to get with all of the multi-colored books.
Check out some of this imagery I found to fuel my inspiration...

Just a quick Post

I am planning on doing a longer post about this, but have you checked out some of the pavilions at the new World Expo in China. I love the idea of architecture as fantasy and some of these are amazing. I will post more when I get a chance.

Earthday Everyday

While earthday is only celebrated once a year, sustainable materials are available everyday. One of my favorite renewable finds in the market is the leather belt flooring by TING. Vintage leather belts scored from Paris, London, and Los Angeles are given the look of modern, lacquered floor boards and turned into iconic flooring solutions. This is proof that greener is cooler.
