Finishing Touches

It's just like when you are getting dressed, the thing that changes a boring bland outfit into a memorable one, is the finishing touches. In the case of a bathroom, it might be something as simple as the hardware you put on the cabinet.

The first image is one I found on Flickr and it's a fairly ordinary looking bathroom. So I thought I would offer some suggestions on hardware from Anthropologie that would dress it up a little. What do you think?

So this knob I thinks has some great detail, very much like a piece of jewelery. I think adding some color to the cabinet would be a nice idea, perhaps a black high sheen would be great.

Perfect for a more nautical or beach theme. I am certainly going to keep this in mind for a Hamptons project.

With more of a Southern European feel this would be great for a French Country or even a Tuscan feeling bathroom. Maybe change the color of the bathroom to a strong terra cotta would give it a very Mediterranean feel.
Now who doesn't like a simple black and white scheme?? I think that the primitive design is perfect for such a simple piece of furniture, try using some red or turquoise accents.

And Now There is Another!

In the last week or so, I have been posting about the model home I am doing at The W Residences in Hollywood. Well, at the same time I have been working on one for the Evo Condominiums in downtown Los Angeles as well. I am thrilled to announce that we are basically done with that now too. I don't think I can paste any images just yet, until it officially opens to the public, but I am very happy with what we managed to do.

We have incorporated humble fabrics like burlap with a simple, modern feel that has a very collected feel. Mixing in some new items with some antiques has given me the chance to create a warm home in the middle of an urban environment. Look forward to more images.

Look What I found on Etsy

I am a huge fan of the site Etsy.com, there are some great things on there, some beautiful jewelery as well as many other things. I bought one of these pieces by John Clark for a friend over the holidays, and she loved it. Funnily enough I was walking through the new W Hollywood the other day and they have a whole collection of these on the wall of one of the hallways, and why not? at $10/piece they are great value. John has almost 80 different ones to choose from, so go and take a look at what is available.

More about the Model Unit

Its often a little challenging trying to marry style and technology. One of the things I have tried to do with the model Unit at The W Residences Hollywood, is to create a space that is both retro chic and cutting edge at the same time. One of the things that allowed me to do that is the Brionvega sound system. It is such a beautiful piece of technology that also contains great visuals.

I love the white color, it feels very brat pack to me. There is a version of this in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, so it is a true design icon. The only place in the U.S. you can buy this is at CF Style in Los Angeles, give them a call for pricing and availability.

Krislyn Design

Over the next few weeks I will be posting more images and information about two new condominium projects that we are working on. One is The W Hollywood Residences, and the other Evo, a new building in downtown Los Angeles. The units are both Models that are open to the public, so it is a great opportunity to show off what we can do.

One of the things that I like about this process is that it gives me a chance to showcase some of our favorite vendors and really show what they can do. One of those is Krislyn Designs who do some of the most breathtaking sculptures using natural materials. The pieces are part floral art. part bonsai and totally original.

They have a store front in Los Angeles on 3rd street but are open by appointment only, but do yourself a favor and drop by and check out what they do, I am sure will be blown away.

New Wisteria

LOL Well I know it's been months since I posted last, and I was going to post about something else, but I was on the Wisteria site 10 minutes ago and I thought in the name of symmetry I would start with this.

This Suzani bed roll is great. I am kind of over the Suzani craze, but this one has a fresh, almost modern feel to it that I really like.

This draped table is beautiful, it has a very John Saladino feel to it. I can't wait to show you some of the work I am doing at The W Hollywood Residences, I used something similar. Its a good option if budget is a big concern.

This little chest is sweet. I am thinking ahead to a summer house at the beach, it would be perfect, perhaps even a boy's bedroom, coupled with some denim or chambray.
